Academic Language Course Now Live

This course series helps practicing and pre-service educators better support linguistically diverse students through culturally responsive, relevant, and sustaining practices. Participants will choose a pathway that offers practical strategies, real-world examples, reflection activities, and classroom-ready resources that help educators build on students’ cultural and linguistic strengths while creating more inclusive learning environments:

• Emergent Bilingual Speakers Pathway introduces emergent bilingual students and strategies for their academic language development, including translingual inquiry.
• African American English (AAE) Speakers Pathway covers grammatical traits of AAE and strategies for supporting AAE speakers’ academic language development.
• Indigenous Language Speakers Pathway surveys Alaska’s linguistic landscape and introduces California’s Native American student population.

The California Department of Education (CDE), in partnership with the UC|CSU Collaborative, is pleased to invite you to Strengthening School Responses and Supports for Students Experiencing Bullying, a webinar designed to help local educational agencies (LEAs) strengthen their approaches to preventing and addressing bullying, fostering an inclusive school culture, identifying students who may be experiencing bullying, and providing effective supports and responses.

UC|CSU Collaborative 2026 Virtual Summit – The Power of Connection in Adolescence: Reimagining Schools and Communities for Connected Learning

The UC|CSU Collaborative is thrilled to announce our 2026 Annual Summit, which will be hosted virtually on Saturday, November 7 from 9 AM to noon PT!

Adolescence is an important developmental period for connected learning. Inclusive environments, expanded opportunities, and meaningful relationships can help diverse learners build connections (within neural and social bonds) as they learn, belong, and grow. The UC|CSU Collaborative 2026 Summit brings together educators, faculty, administrators, and researchers in child development to explore how schools and communities can strengthen the social and relational skills that support learning, well-being, and future success for adolescents with individual learning differences. 

The Summit is focused on two tracks: one on “From School to Community: Redesigning Inclusive 6-16 Learning Environments” and one on “From Access to Agency: Building Digital Equity and Well-Being for Diverse Learners.” Each session features a moderated discussion with developmental scientists and practitioners in education or behavioral/mental health to connect research evidence with real-world practice. Ultimately, the Summit aims to strengthen the capacity of grade 6-12 and higher education educators, health professionals, and system leaders to support the whole adolescent and expand opportunity for all adolescent learners.
