June 2026 Recap
Jul 07, 2026
Summer Has Officially Arrived
June was a month of momentum for the UC|CSU Collaborative. From advancing inclusive educator preparation resources to launching new professional learning opportunities, we continued working alongside educators across California to turn research into practical support for classrooms and communities. As we move into July, that momentum continues with the Open Access Summer Learning Series. Whether you’re preparing teacher candidates for the year ahead or strengthening inclusive practices across your program, these sessions are designed to help educators reduce barriers, expand access, and create learning environments where every student can thrive.
Open Access Summer Learning Series
Summer is the perfect time to refresh your practice and prepare for the year ahead. Open Access is offering a free, two-part webinar series in July and August that gives faculty, instructors, supervisors, and educator preparation staff practical strategies for creating more inclusive learning environments. Grounded in Universal Design for Learning (UDL), the sessions highlight research-based tools and real-world examples that help educators reduce barriers and support learner success from day one.
Tools for Inclusive Teaching: Open Access Resources for Future Educators

Kick off the series by exploring practical Open Access resources that can be immediately integrated into educator preparation and professional learning. Participants will discover strategies for designing inclusive instruction, planning for learner variability, and strengthening collaboration while applying the Plus-One Approach to enhance existing teaching practices.

UDL in Action: Bringing Inclusive Design to Life

See Universal Design for Learning in practice through authentic classroom examples featuring UDL, assistive technology (AT), and augmentative and alternative communication (AAC). Using photos, videos, and stories from Open Access Showcase Sites, this session demonstrates how inclusive design comes to life in classrooms and connects participants with ongoing professional learning opportunities, including the UDL Unlocked Podcast.

Open Access Collection

The learning doesn’t stop with the webinars. Open Access offers a growing collection of free, evidence-based resources that support inclusive teaching and systems change throughout the year. This collection includes videos, printable tools, resource lists, and websites.
This month, we encourage educators to explore:
- Assistive Technology (AT): Learn how technology tools and services can increase access, participation, and independence for students with disabilities, and support IEP teams in making informed decisions.
- Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC): Explore resources that help educators better support students with complex communication needs by expanding opportunities for meaningful communication and participation.
- Universal Design for Learning (UDL): Discover practical guidance for designing flexible, engaging, and accessible learning experiences that anticipate learner variability and remove barriers before they arise.
Coming Soon
Universal Design for Learning and Math
We’re also excited to preview an upcoming course series focused on Universal Design for Learning and Mathematics. This new resource will help educators create math classrooms where every student can engage as a capable mathematical thinker by supporting multiple ways to explore concepts, communicate reasoning, and develop strategic, metacognitive problem-solving skills.
Keep the Momentum Going
As we look ahead to the new school year, we’re excited to continue partnering with educators to advance inclusive, evidence-based teaching practices across California. Whether you’re joining the Open Access Summer Learning Series, exploring our growing collection of free resources, or preparing future educators for the classroom, there’s never been a better time to invest in practices that expand access and opportunity for every learner. Stay connected throughout July for new resources, upcoming events, and more ways to turn research into meaningful action in classrooms and communities.
