The Education Policy Initiative is an internship for UCLA undergraduates that delves into the complexities of education policymaking in the United States at the local, state, and federal levels. Students will explore the institutions, actors, historical context, and policy issues that shape education policy. They will also learn to critically assess the impact of policies on students, teachers, and communities.

Core Activities

The EPI internship program is designed to help students:

  • Understand California’s Education System: Build a foundational understanding of how education policy is developed, funded, and implemented at the state level.
  • Engage with Real Policy Work: Analyze current legislative efforts and participate in meaningful policy research, advocacy, and communication.
  • Develop Practical Skills: Gain experience in public speaking, policy writing, collaboration, research, and strategic advocacy.
  • Explore Career Pathways: Connect with education policy professionals, explore different roles in public service, and learn how to make an impact.
  • Address Educational Equity: Focus on current issues that affect diverse and neurodiverse students, contributing to a more inclusive education system.
